Going into the 2022 BSL Draft, the Battle had to figure out how to spend their protected slots. The strategy for this had to be altered due to picking dead last. It's a good problem to have because it means you're the reigning champions, but it presents a unique challenge at the start of the next season. Never ones to shy away from the big move, Alamo City traded their 2nd and 5th round picks to obtain a BSL star for their re-entry player. Off-season moves by Daryl Dike, Yefferson Soteldo, and Rodolfo Pizzaro helped make the designated player decisions a little easier. There was still some heavy discussion in the Battle camp about DP3 as well as who to use the Retention slot on. Turns out that things played out in a way that saw Alamo City being able to keep those players anyway. The full protected list and draft results are below:
