Freedom Cup Champions !

Double Hat Trick Leads Battle to Win

- San Antonio
Captain Obafemi Martins almost stole the show all by himself as the match came to a close on Sunday.  Facing fellow founding member Union SC, Martins put on an electrifying display that normally would earn a player MotM honors.  This weekend though it was merely an emphatic punctuation on a performance that Alamo City has been waiting for all year.  Finally, the club put together a complete performance from whistle to whistle to snatch a win, a lifeline 3pts, and a chance to keep the playoff hopes alive.  Martins though, wouldn't be awarded MotM honors as that fell to the man that blew the match wide open right at the opening whistle.  Finally back and healthy, 'Super' Mauro Diaz showed why the Battle kept the faith.  Starting the match with a hat trick of his own, Diaz showed the skill that made him a DP this off season.  In between the two bookend performances the club got an assist from Mike Grella and a shutout from re-aquired Adam Kwarasey.
Coupled with the win over Union SC, was a win over Kashima that (along with the rest of the results) sealed the 2015 Freedom Cup for the Battle.  The club has yet to fail to win the invitational tournament but this season's format proved to be the most competitive yet.  Three other clubs would have been in contention still has results panned out differently.

For the Battle this weekend was a much needed positive swing.  It couldn't have come at a better time though as now the club has a short turnaround in league play.
